This is one of three albums owned by the family of Sir John Nicoll, who was the governor and commander-in-chief of Singapore from 1952 to 1955. The leather-bound albums contain some 946 photographs showing him at various key moments in Singapore’s history during the transition from British colony to independent nation. Various photographs also capture his meetings with foreign dignitaries like Chou En Lai and Richard Nixon as well as Singaporean and Malayan personalities. Other photographs record his attendance at official events such as the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
