Huge rock at the bank of the River Hooghly

The Hooghly River is a tributary of the Ganges River in West Bengal, India. Located on the river is the town of Hugli-Chinsura, known as Hooghly during British colonial times. The river remains an important channel that links Calcutta (now Kolkata) to the Bay of Bengal and other trading ports around the world. Its presence was one of the reasons why the British chose to settle in Calcutta. This picture was taken by a British policeman who was posted to Singapore during the Malayan Emergency.
