This dish has incised decoration covered with green and aubergine glazes. Known as 'sancai' ('three-colour'), these lead glazes were popular during the Tang dynasty (618-906) and typically comprised green, yellow, cream and brown colours.The practice of using lead-glazed burial wares started during the Han dynasty (206 BCE-220 CE). This glaze technology further developed during the Tang dynasty (618-906). Sancai glazes continued to be used on altar vessels and burial figures during the Ming dynasty.
