Amulets such as this are worn as jewellery. They were formed in the shape of a hollow cylinder with a few small loops through which a chain or string is strung around the neck. As the purpose of the amulet is to reinforce the power of the wearer and to ward off evil spirits, sacred objects such as a piece of paper with a prayer or other inscriptions or an animal's tooth or scent is placed inside the cylinder.
