The upper part of this blue and white meiping or globular vase depicts three officials pointing to the sky. It illustrates the saying 'zhiri gaosheng' which means rising to a high position within a short period of time'. This scene was probably extracted from the popular story 'Yang jiajiang yanyi' (Yang Warriors). The story recounts the Yang family patriots who defended the Northern Song empire.
