This set of four coasters features student Derek Lee’s paintings of the iconic campus spaces, namely the Library building, the Yale-NUS College Hall, the Eco-pond, and the Elm College courtyard. In the paintings, Lee attempts to capture fleeting moments in the college as it approaches closure in 2025. The paintings were originally commissioned for a Founders Dinner held in 2024.Lee’s paintings were turned into these coasters that were given to the attendees at the Founders Dinner. They also commemorated the renaming of the college’s Performance Hall, which had been at the heart of the college’s activities to Yale-NUS College Hall the day after the dinner on 12 January 2024. Hence, these coasters became a means of remembering what the college looked like, paralleling the intent of the renaming to memorialise the legacy of Yale-NUS College. The college is known for its active student body and the collaborative spirit between the students and the college is evident through various collaterals such as this designed by students.
