Although Imelda Cajipe-Endaya is recognised for her large-scale, collage paintings with strong socio-political themes, her lesser-known prints produced during the 1970s show her embrace of play, experimentation and rhythm in the print medium. Untitled (Rhythmic Play) I and ll are positive and negative images transferred from oil subtractions, a technique in which the artist removes ink or paint from a surface to create an image, from glass with aluminum foil and paper. Reflecting in 1987, Cajipe-Endaya expressed that she felt a deep responsibility to respond visually to the corruption and brutalities of the Marcos regime, admitting, "I was almost always burdened with guilt at doing abstracts."
