Before long haul flights were possible, airways used flying boats to travel between countries. Flying boats were aircraft that were able to alight and take off from large, calm bodies of water, enabling convenient stops for refuel and load or unload. This poster illustrates a flying boat service by Qantas Empire Airways that flew between Sydney, Singapore and London in ten days. As flying boat services were relatively new, advertising posters like these served an informational role by showing potential passengers what their flight experience would entail. This included spaces on the plane such as the promenade cabin, sleeping quarters, and cooking quarters.
