This poster was created for the Pageants of Empire, performed at Wembley Stadium in 1924. Approximately 1 million people attended the pageants, which were performed outdoors thirty times. The event featured 15,000 performers, including 300 horses, 1000 doves, 72 monkeys, 50 donkeys, eight camels, seven elephants, and three bears, alongside human participants. One segment, titled ‘Westward Ho!’, included a scene depicting Sir Stamford Raffles with a troop of Malays. This lithograph, designed by Gerald Spencer Pryse, depicts Queen Elizabeth I attending St. Paul’s Cathedral following the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588.
