This is a fine example of a painting in the Pahari style of Guler or Kangra, depicting Krishna and Radha seated on a white marble palace terrace, below a cusped pointed arch. The couple sits on a golden throne, surmounted by a fringed, silver canopy. In the background, flowering prunus trees appear against a pale green background, adding to the romantic nature of this image. Krishna wears a yellow dhoti and shoulder cloth, various types of jewellery and a gold-crown topped with a peacock feather, stylistically consistent with his depiction in the Guler and Kangra style. Radha wears a deep red ensemble, which appears to be in the Mughal style of pants (salwar), with a long, flowing upper garment (pesvaj) and a scarf (odhani). She is heavily adorned with jewellery and holds a blooming lotus flower in one hennaed hand. The painting has a black and gold foliate border, similar to other Kangra examples of this period. The painting exemplifies the Kangra style, which evolved from the older Guler tradition, and is considered to be the high point of romanticism in Pahari art.
