This book includes instructions on western etiquette for both women and men. By the 1920s and 1930s, lavish parties were frequently held at clubs, the Government House (the Istana today) as well as the houses of the wealthy in Singapore. Western etiquette was expected at such parties, and local women would learn the rules related to dress, ballroom dancing and dining, among others.
