This photo shows British officers and their wives viewing a plane which had just landed at Penarek Airfield in Trengganu. First built in 1967 and then renovated in 1969 by a troop of British Royal Engineers, the airfield was used in 1970 in the massive Five-Power Defence Agreement exercise called Bersatu Padu, and was intended to be capable of landing at least a hundred C-130 cargo planes. Apart from Singaporean troops, soldiers from Malaysia, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand took part in Bersatu Padu.
