These prints comprise a good mix of portraits and landscapes. The photographer Felice Beato organised his photographic business to tap into the tourist industry, commodifying the Burmese experience for travellers in the form of photographs and Burmese curios. However, he was also closely associated with the British miliary. As such, his oeuvre straddles both commercial demands and military commissions.
