This is a passbook from the Bank of China (Singapore), dated to 1978. The Bank of China is one of the oldest Chinese banks, founded in 1905 to replace the Da-Ching Government Bank. The Singaporean branch opened in 1936 to handle remittances to China from overseas Chinese based in Singapore and from around the world. The Bank's mission is stated on the passbook: "Our duty is to hold ourselves responsible to the people" (我们的责任是向人民负责Wo men de ze ren shi xiang ren min fu ze ren).
