This purple cheongsam was part of the bridal trousseau of Sin Mee Kuen, a mandarin teacher at Nan Hua Girls' School. Chinese brides in the 1930s and 1940s typically had a few cheongsam tailored for the wedding festivities and to bring with them to their new home. This cheongsam has the slim silhouette of the 1940s cheongsam, which does not accentuate the figure as much as the later iterations of the cheongsam. Sin Mee Kuen and her husband were matchmade, and married in 1940 or 1941.
