Lady Sophia Raffles was the wife of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, having married him in 1817. This letter was written from her home in High Wood in 1839, sometime after Raffles’ death in 1826. She writes to the Singapore merchant Alexander Guthrie, who was friends with Raffles, relating to property inherited from Captain William Flint and Mary Ann Flint. Mary Ann was Raffles’ sister and Flint her husband.
