Lady Sophia Raffles was the wife of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, having married him in 1817. This letter is part of a collection of letters written by her to the Revd Thomas Raffles, who was her husband’s cousin. Writing from Florence, Lady Raffles mentions the indifferent sales for her recently published Memoir of the Life and Public Services of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, and also the expenses associated with the statue of Raffles by Francis Chantrey.
