This bowl bears a central decoration of a pair of fishes amidst waves. It is covered with a crackled glaze. Twin fishes are a popular motif in Chinese art, and were often applied onto ceramics beginning in the Tang dynasty. "Twin fish" dishes were an especially popular product of the Longquan kilns in Zhejiang province during the Southern Song through Yuan dynasties. The twin-fish motif represents abundance, marital bliss, and conjugal fidelity.
