This table was probably used for private prayers. It was most likely made in Jepara, on the north coast of Java. The decoration includes both Christian and traditional Indo-Javanese motifs, making this an unusual example of cross-cultural art. Two pairs of peacocks decorate the top: one pair stand flanking a cross with their tails open; the pair above are in flight. A snake slithers along each of the curved legs. Peacocks and snakes are both common motifs of Jepara furniture.
