Embroidered shoes for a girl

This pair of red embroidered shoes is decorated with chrysanthemum and floral motifs and was worn during a wedding by the page girl. They belonged to a Peranakan family from Malacca. Peranakans wear a variety of clothing which reflect their hybrid styles and identities. Chinese-style clothing was favoured particularly during festive occasions like weddings as a reflection of their Chinese heritage.
