This set of two porcelain plates is the Peranakan Limited Edition Set from the “Star Wars – The Heirloom Collection” series designed by Singapore gallery shop Supermama. It is a contemporary take on traditional nyonyaware with Star Wars icons. There are 50 sets for its limited first edition run.The combination of green, yellow and pink polychrome colours on the decoration of the two enamelled pieces are representative of nyonyaware, exhibiting Peranakans’ affinity for bright colours. Darth Vader, Yoda and C-3PO are fictional characters in the Star Wars franchise. Together with the symbols of the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire, they are being used as motifs to decorate the central scene and the paneled sections of the plates.
