Gift of H.J. Hondius van Herwerden. Presented to the ACM by the City of Delft, Netherlands.

On this ceremonial cloth, we see stylised flower buds and petals forming an eight-point star, with blooms on each corner. The motif, called cendana kawi was inspired by one of the traditional patola designs called chhabadi bhat or 'flower basket' design. As a ritual cloth worn during religious and life-cycle ceremonies to channel divine energy and ensure its user’s safety, the cendana kawi was the most prized and preferred design.
