The Tang Shipwreck was acquired through the generous donation of the Estate of Khoo Teck Puat.

This bowl has a low, ring foot shaped like an archaic jade disc (bi 璧). It is one of around 300 white wares recovered from the Tang Shipwreck and this small consignment of white wares was perhaps the most valuable ceramic cargo on board. Among the northern white wares made in the Tang dynasty, those from the Xing kilns were deemed the finest and have been compared to snow and silver. Chinese white wares such as this bowl were immensely desirable, both within China (where they were probably used for drinking tea) and abroad. High-fired Chinese white wares were prized for their durability and delicacy.
