Saraswati is depicted in typical Tanjore style – with an architectural backdrop, rounded figure, and ornate ornamentation. The Tanjore style seemed to take inspiration from the royal courts for its depiction of mythological characters and figures, bedecking gods and goddesses with crowns, necklaces, bracelets, garlands and elaborate clothing. Here Saraswati plays the veena while seated on a lotus and what looks like a cushioned throne, while palatial pillars and arches appear in the background.
