The Tang Shipwreck was acquired through the generous donation of the Estate of Khoo Teck Puat.

High-fired Chinese white wares were highly desired within China and abroad, and the consignment of approximately 300 white wares on the Tang shipwreck were probably the most valuable group of ceramics on the ship. Made of coarser clay that was neither as white nor as pure as that used at the Xing kilns, Gongxian ware was coated with white slip (liquid clay) to improve the appearance. This elegantly potted ovoid jar was probably a wine container.
