This is a postcard printed with an advertisement from ‘The Royal Museum’ at Raffles Place. The 'Royal Museum’ was a private antique business owned by an individual named G. Bettanin. The existence of Bettanin’s enterprise indicated that there was probably a growing demand for and trade in the anthropological materials of the region during the late 19th century. By styling his business after a ‘museum’, Bettanin was also likely to be tapping into the wave of anthropological interest generated by the opening of The Raffles Library and Museum at Stamford Road in 1887.
