Porcelain boxes were part of the bride’s wedding gifts and would be displayed on her dressing table. It was used to store cosmetics such as ‘bedak sejuk’ (cold powder), a type of face powder sold in dry tablet form. After mixing the tablet with water, the paste is applied and left on the face overnight before it is washed off the next day, resulting in softer and smoother skin.
