This booklet contains a synopsis of the 'model ballet' and photographs taken of scenes from the ballet performance. The story revolves around Wu Qinghua, a servant girl who suffers under an oppressive landlord. Wu escapes and joins a Red Army detachment of women soldiers. She eventually defeats the landlord and resolves to continue the revolutionary struggle against 'class enemies'. This publication was produced to commemorate the 28th anniversary of 'Talks at the Yan'an Forum on Literature and Art' held in 1942. During the Talks, Mao spoke about the importance of the arts in the political socialisation of the masses. His remarks were to serve as the guidelines for all artistic activity in China after 1949.
