This photograph was taken outside the Raffles Museum - renamed the Syonan Museum during the Japanese Occupation and now the Singapore History Museum. Built by the British with public education in mind, the museum was over half a century old and had a rich collection of artefacts and exhibits from the Straits Settlements during the Japanese Occupation. Fortunately, the museum was spared from serious physical damage as prominent Japanese scientists and nobles shared with British officials the stewardship of the museum.(Seated from right: Asst. Director Yata Haneda, Marquis Yoshichika Tokugawa, Secretary Yoshii Back row, from right: Secretaries to Tokugawa. Ishii, Tsuchida, Omori and Secretary Sugawara)
