North Bridge Road was built by convict labour between 1833 and 1835 under the direction of G.D. Coleman. The postcard depicts a relatively deserted North Bridge Road with only two rickshaws, or jinrickshas, and some hawkers wandering around trying to sell their wares. Jinrickshas were popular at the turn of the century as they were the cheapest mode of transportation available in the town area.
