Originally known as Tiger Balm Gardens, it was established in 1937 by Aw Boon Haw and Aw Boon Par, the two brothers who founded the Tiger Balm empire. The park was filled with various statues and figurines that brought to life the ancient Chinese mythology, legends and values. However, it was sold to the government in 1979 and in 1985 it was renamed Haw Par Villa and converted into an amusement park.
