The backdrop of this Chinese opera stage is fashioned after the typical setting of Chinese temples with a depiction of the Goddess of Mercy strategically positioned in the middle. The compounds of Chinese temples were frequent venues for Chinese opera performances, in addition to the temporary timber stage that was often set up out on the street. During the 1930s, amusement parks were very popular venues among the opera troupes.
