Fine openwork necklaces such as this example, set with diamonds, were locally popular with many communities and were produced both in Singapore and in the major towns and cities of the Malay Peninsula. This particular necklace bears a crescent moon and star motif wich makes it highly likely that this particular piece was made for a well to do Muslim woman.
