This bangle was part of a set of two bangles and this type of bangles was worn by local women in Straits Settlements, perhaps including Nonyas (Peranakan women). Nonyas (Peranakan women) were fond of jewellery, which was worn as a display of wealth especially on ceremonial occasions.
