The Picturehouse, which opened in 1990, was one of Singapore's first cinemas dedicated to arthouse and non-mainstream movies, after Premier cinema at Orchard Towers (1978-1983). Opened by Cathay Organisation, the cinema was situated in an extension building next to the historic Cathay Building along Handy Road. The Picturehouse closed in 2000, but reopened again in 2006 as one of the eight cinema halls of Cathay Cineplex in the main Cathay Building. In 2022, Cathay Organisation announced that it would cease cinema operations at the Cathay Building. This programme booklet dating from 1992 was for a screening series showcasing classic Cathay films produced between 1956 and 1970, such as Her Tender Heart (1959) and The Greatest Civil War on Earth (1961).
