This sarong is decorated with a buketan (bouquet) motif with birds and butterflies. The kepala (head) has four diagonal bands with alternating patterns. It is signed “Nj: Oei Kek Liat SOLO”. It was made by Nyonya Oei Kek Liat (born Oey Hwie Nio), probably in collaboration with her mother, Nyonya Oeij Kok Sing (1895–1966), all of whom were from a family of batik makers who worked in Pekalongan. Oeij is the historical Dutch spelling for Oey, a Chinese Indonesian surname of Hokkien origin.
