Rumah Dom (Dome House)

The Young Artists of Penestanan emerged in the late 1950s/early 1960s and are associated with the tutelage of Arie Smit. I Ketut Tagen was among this first generation of young artists.​ Tagen is known for his distinctive style and innovation of painting ‘faceless’ human subjects. Through the architect Lim Chong Keat, Tagen was exposed to the ideas of Buckminister Fuller. Tagen met Fuller in the 1970s as part of the Campuan World Affairs Meetings that Lim, Fuller and Austin Coates initiated in 1976. This painting which references Fuller's Geodesic Dome was probably commemorative ​because it was made after Fuller's death in 1983. Another painting by Tagen of the Geodesic Dome made in 1979 resides in the collection of M+.
