Located at Blk 14 Redhill Close, the Bukit Merah Old Folks' Club was officially opened in 1979 thanks to the efforts of the Community Service Volunteers (volunteers under the Council of Social Service, which later became the National Council of Social Service in 1992). The club sought to address issues faced by the elderly such as loneliness and medical and financial problems. This monthly newsletter, which was first published in June 1977, predates the setting up of the club and represents one facet of efforts by the volunteers to engage the residents with the aim of befriending them and eventually setting up the club.
