This is an engraving after a photograph by Felice Beato. It depicts the 1st Grand Durbar at the Royal Palace in Mandalay - an allegiance ceremony organised by the British following the annexation of Upper Burma into the British Empire in 1885. The scene was published in the British Press, showing a high ranking British officer, most likely Lord Dufferin, Viceroy of India, receiving the allegiance of the Burmese princes in one of the Halls of the Royal Palace.
