The Ahuja studios in Yangon are of regional significance as they were among the longest-running, most prominent and most prolific photography studios run by South Asians operating anywhere in Southeast Asia. Established in 1885, the studios continued to operate until the 1960s. The original founder passed the studio on to several generations of descendants. The Ahuja postcards – most in rich colour – include depictions of people and scenes, and have an enduring visual appeal that has contributed significantly to Myanmar’s self-image and representations internationally.
