Comme des Garcon’s fall 2018 show saw Kawakubo dress her models in dinosaur masks and superman cartoon prints and plasticised textures. These light-hearted visuals were underpinned by Kawakubo’s reference to punk culture, which rejects established norms and promoted individual freedom. This jacket was donated by Mervin Wee, the Managing Director of the beauty and wellness empire, Jean Yip Group. The first Jean Yip Hair Studio was opened in 1982 at Katong Plaza. Since then, the Jean Yip brand has expanded to over 80 outlets across Singapore and Malaysia. Wee wore this jacket to the wedding banquet dinner of his daughter, Rachel Wee. The reception celebrated their marriage with a playful “Under the Sea” theme which eventually saw Wee dress in a Neptune costume. The whimsical atmosphere of the celebration was complemented by his choice of jacket, which departed from the established code of dinner jacket tailoring with its glitter sleeves and individual white squares. Wee also wore this for the ICON Ball 2019 where he wore Best Dressed Gentleman.
