This is a receipt issued to Mr Cheng Choon Eng for his contribution to the National Defence Fund. The fund was set up by Minister for Defence Lim Kim San on 29 January 1968. Just 13 days before, on 16 January 1968, the British had announced that the troop pullout would be completed by 31 March 1971, four years earlier than planned. By April 1969, $8.34 million had been raised, and the National Defence fund was finally wound up in January 1975.
