This pair of bolster cases would have been used as part of the decorative textiles to adorn the bed in the bridal chamber. Per Malay custom (adat), the bridal chamber would also be sumptuously dressed as befits the "raja sehari" (king and queen for the day) concept. The embroidery form on these bolster cases is known as as "kelingkan" or "keringkam" in Malay where the metallic filaments used are typically flat ribbons, given a slightly beaten or hammered metal effect.
