This photograph shows a calligrapher with his stall along a five-foot way. These calligraphers would often sell pre-written couplets or provide bespoke couplet writing services for their customers. Such trades are now increasingly rare and this photograph serves almost as a form of documentation for a time in Singapore's history where such trades were more commonly found.
