This gold and diamond pendant is crowned with sprigs of leaf-like foliage. The central old European cut diamond is of a yellow hue and weighs 15.58 carats. The pendant was passed down from Mrs Choong Eng Hye née Ho Guat Im (1910–1993) to her daughter-in-law, Doreen Choong née Tan Kien Leng (1939–2014), who in turn passed it down to her eldest son. The Choongs are Penang Peranakan family. Datuk Choong Lye Hock (d. 1960) was an oil and rice miller in Malaya. His son, Datuk Choong Eng Hye (1904–1983), succeeded his business and traded in rubber. In 1927, Datuk Choong Eng Hye married Datin Ho Guat Im, the younger daughter of Mr Ho Kim Teik (1887–1978), a rubber trader and founder and chairman of Georgetown Motor Garage Ltd. Mr Ho Kim Teik was the second son of Mr Ho Tiang Wan (1847–1914), also a Penang businessman, who traded in pepper and opium in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
