This sarangi belonged to Singaporean Sikh pioneer Seva Singh Gandharab. Born in Singapore in 1920, Seva Singh was an accomplished gurbani singer. He participated in temple activities and started his own music and folk-dance group, which took part in ten National Day Parades. He was active in People’s Association’s cultural section, and in recognition of his contributions to the arts and culture sector, Seva Singh was awarded a shield by Indian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore, and accorded the highest honour in India, when he was presented with a shawl in Sikh Golden Temple, Amritsar.
