Erosion I shows how Chng Seok Tin was able to use printmaking as a methodology for interpretation and semi-abstraction of the rugged landscape of Hull’s moorlands. It marks a departure from the still-lifes and realistic depictions that characterised her practice while she was a student at NAFA from 1971-1972, demonstrating the thorough way in which she responded to the British art pedagogy which emphasized ‘research’ and close study as the foundation for art.
