“Muk yu” (木鱼)or “wooden fish” was a form of Cantonese oral storytelling where the storytelling would recite the story in four-character verses with a simple wooden percussion. In Singapore, these storytelling sessions were often conducted in traditional Cantonese teahouses in Chinatown.All volumes in this set titled “Bei Jie Hong Luo”(背解红罗)were printed in Singapore by Yong Cheng Shu Ju (永成书局,Yong Cheng Bookshop), which was located in Chinatown.
