This letter was sent by the Ex-Services Association of Malaysia (ESAM) to Choong Kim Siew, a former Leading Seaman with the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN). It serves as an invitation to join ESAM as a member. As a military veterans’ association, one of ESAM’s objectives is to look after the social welfare of retired servicemen. After retirement, Choong chose to reside in Singapore instead of returning to Penang. As such, the nearest branch for him to submit the application form to ESAM was in Johor Bharu, Malaysia, as there was no branch in Singapore.
