The two figures likely depict Golden Boy and Jade Maiden (金铜玉女), with the former holding an incense burner and the latter a large stalk of flowers. They constitute one of two pairs of stone sculptures from the grave of Mr Ong Chin Huat, who had passed away on 3 February 1959. Mr Ong's grave was one of over 3,700 graves that were exhumed between 2013 and 2014 for the construction of a new road through Bukit Brown Cemetery. The celestial figures are accompanied by a pair of lions: the male lion is depicted with a ball under his paw while the female is portrayed with a cub. Both pairs of sculptures were originally placed at different intersections of the angular tomb arms that extended from each side of the tomb.
